Introduction Introduction This 'AutoPlay' application (for Microsoft Windows) is intended to give you a brief introduction to the CD-ROM and a quick tour of the \CIRCUM\SHP\... shape' files and the viewing software SurView. Primary Buttons --------------- READ ME: displays \1_readme.txt (basic information about the CD-ROM) in Notepad for viewing or printing HELP: information about this application and button functions (this file). A similar INFO button appears on all screens. While viewing any of these descriptions, the text can be copied to the Windows clipboard and pasted into Notepad for printing if you wish. DOCUMENTATION: displays CD-ROM documentation (\CIRCUM\DOC\HTML\...HTM) in your default Web browser EXIT: terminates this application Exploring the Data Set ---------------------- This CD-ROM contains a runtime version of SurView (in the \CIRCUM\SURVIEW directory). SurView runs on Microsoftš Windows(tm) and can display and print the 'shape' files. No installation is required - SurView can run directly from the CD-ROM. SurView does not have to be run from this introduction application. It can be run on its own. Documentation for SurView that is specific to this CD-ROM can be found in the \CIRCUM\DOC\HTML\SURVIEW*.HTM (accessible by clicking the 'Documentation' button) or in the corresponding \CIRCUM\DOC\TXT\SURVIEW*.TXT files. SurView also has detailed help in a standard Windows help file that is accessible through SurView's 'Help' menu. When selected, each of the following buttons presents a new set of buttons, each of which is labelled with a filename (eg. 'ROX5M.ASX' or 'MBELTS.FDL'). Clicking the button will launch SurView directly from the CD-ROM to view that file (or set of files). An .ASX file instructs SurView on how to display the corresponding 'shape' (.SHP) file. An .FDL file is simply a list of .ASX files to be viewed as a set. Although you can run several copies of SurView concurrently, it is recommended that you close SurView before clicking on another button to launch a new copy to reduce the 'clutter' on your desktop. If you are prompted to 'Save changes?' in any of the files whose display attributes have been modified, click the 'No' button (since the files are write-protected on the CD-ROM). Each of the screens also contains a 'Home' button that will return you to this initial screen and an 'Info' button that will display instructions or descriptive information. The groups of files are: CARTOGRAPHIC BASE: opens a new view of cartographic base information that can be explored with SurView DEPOSITS: opens a new view of deposit information that can be explored with SurView GEOLOGY (10 M): opens a new view of geological information (at 10 million scale generalization) that can be explored with SurView GEOLOGY (5 M): opens a new view of geological information (at 5 million scale generalization) that can be explored with SurView METALLOGENIC BELTS: opens a new view of metallogenic belt information that can be explored with SurView EXAMPLES: opens a new view of examples of maps that can be explored with SurView. Each example has instructions (under the 'Info' button) describing the files used to draw the example and how they were modified. These examples are a general introduction on how to select, reselect, and draw the data on this CD-ROM using SurView. Complete documentation for SurView that is specific to this CD-ROM can be found in the \CIRCUM\DOC\HTML\SURVIEW*.HTM (accessible by clicking the 'Documentation' button) or in the corresponding \CIRCUM\DOC\TXT\SURVIEW*.TXT files. SurView also has detailed help in a standard Windows help file that is accessible through SurView's 'Help' menu.
