46. Back-calculated accelerations using the energy-stress method are compared with predicted accelerations (solid line) using seismologic predictions. The seismological predictions were derived from acceleration records of M~5 and smaller earthquakes in the study region (for details, see Pond, 1996). The agreement is very good throughout for the earthquake of 6,100 yr BP for a M~ 7.5 earthquake. The decrease in accelerations is monotonic, again indicating a single, very large paleo-earthquake. (It should be noted that the energy-stress method should apply to many locales, worldwide.)
