48. Now we go to the area of Charleston, South Carolina, where a M~7.3 earthquake struck in 1886. A paleoliquefaction study was conducted near Charleston to determine whether the large 1886 earthquake should be considered as an anomalous event through time or as one of a continuing series of strong earthquakes.
