1. IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION Abstract: The Global Relief CD-ROM consolidates some digital data bases previously offered by NOAA/National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) on computer tape. The CD-ROM contains several digital gridded data bases of global topography and bathymetry at various scales, digitized continental coastlines, gridded oceanic gravity anomalies, ocean-floor gazetteers, and digital topographic relief images in a wide variety of formats. The CD-ROM features gazeeteers from the International Hydrographic Organization (GEBCO) and the US Bureau of Geographic Names (provided by NOAA/National Ocean Service (NOS)); computer- readable images of the Earth in GIF, HDF, and 24-bit TIFF formats; University of Texas digital crustal plate boundaries, magnetic lineations of the World's Ocean Basins, and Fracture Zones; earthquake epicenters (1980-1990); World Data Bank II (WDB) coastlines, rivers lakes, political boundaries; World Vector Shoreline (WVS) data provided by the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA); Seasat (global) and GeoSat (southern oceans) satellite altimetery data of oceanic free-air gravity anomalies; ETOPO5 5-minute gridded elevation/bathymetry for the world; RAND and Scripps topographic data base; 10-minute gridded Modal height data for land masses from US Navy Fleet Numerical Oceanography Center (FNOC); 30-second gridded elevation and coastal water depths for contiguous USA from the US Geological Survey (USGS) and NOAA/NOS; gridded 15 degree bathymetric data from the US Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveys by NOAA/NOS (NOEEZ), and RGB Mercator-projection color shaded relief image of the world to +/- 80 degrees latitude. The CD-ROM also includes image display software and program codes for IBM/PCs, Macintosh, and UNIX workstations. A special "Mac only" area is devoted to topographic imaging fo display of full-color relief images for Macintoshes. (Information obtained from the NOAA/NGDC data announcement 93-MGG-01).
