Figure 1.--Oblique air photograph of the May 18, 1997 Wolf Mountain slump-debris flow, a snowmelt-induced landslide located south of Jackson, Wyoming. Debris from the slide covered U.S. Highway 26-89 and flowed into the Snake River. On April 29, 1998 debris-flow activity occurred again, sending approximately 6000-cubic yards of material down the hillside. A catch basin constructed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation prevented debris from reaching the highway. The location of a large slump block, resulting from the initial failure, is indicated by the white arrow.
