The specimens below are from the Roadside and Rainbow pits. They illustrate some of the variety in appearance of beryllium ore.
SLIDE 52 is an ore specimen containing nodules of clay outlined by purple
fluorite. The nodules are relict carbonate rock clasts. Specimen from Rainbow
pit.
SLIDE 53 is an ore specimen containing fluorite-dioctahedral smectite
nodules rimmed by the manganese oxide mineral chalcophanite. Specimen from
Rainbow pit.
SLIDE 54 is an ore specimen containing nodules with fluorite cores,
trioctahedral smectite intermediate zones, and rims of the manganese oxide
minerals chalcophanite and todorokite(?). The trioctahedral smectite is
magnesium-, zinc-, and lithium-rich. Specimen from Roadside pit.
