We gratefully acknowledge all the individuals and their respective agencies or institutions that contributed to this project. While the original concept was posed in the spring of 1998, most of the conceptual work and data compilation for this project took place in four days of meetings. George Graettinger, Laura Hayes, Chris Polloni, Tom Simon and Ellen Mecray spent time outside of meetings getting the metadata electronic card system in order, editing data files, checking references, developing the various project files, and designing and cutting the CD-ROM.

Ivar Babb and Kevin Joy of NOAA’s National Undersea Research Center, North Atlantic & Great Lakes produced a CD-ROM that focused on the "Massachusetts Bay Radioactive Waste Surveys 1991-1997". Coverages from this CD-ROM were provided for inclusion in this project. A copy of the CD-ROM can be obtained from:

Carol Baumann (Center for Marine Conservation), Sam Brody (Gulf of Maine Marine Protected Areas Project), Derek Fenton (Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada), and Betsy Nicholson (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) provided us with a CD-ROM copy of "A GIS Database of Existing Coastal and Marine Protected Areas, Conservation Zones, and Restricted Fishing Areas in the Gulf of Maine." This CD-ROM was produced as part of the Gulf of Maine Marine Protected Areas Project sponsored by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment, the EPA, the Center for Marine Conservation, the Henry Weisenfeld Family Foundation, the Marine Policy Center of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the New England Aquarium, and the Center for Environmental Enterprise. We have integrated some of these coverages into the various Chapters and Libraries.

We gratefully acknowledge the raster nautical charts included on this CD-ROM provided by Maptech, Inc. as a public service. They are subject to copyright and are not to be reproduced, nor are they to be used for navigation. The entire suite of NOAA nautical charts is available from Maptech, Inc. Jane Denny provided a thorough and helpful review of this publication.
