Figure 8.1. Holocene variability in Chesapeake Bay dinoflagellate cysts from Marion-Dufresne core MD 99-2209. Changes in the percent abundance of Spiniferites spp., S. mirabilis, Operculodinium centrocarpum, Polysphaeridium zoharyi, Lingulodinium macherophorum and Nematosphaeropsis spp. from 1700 cm to ~250 cm reflect natural climatic and hydrological factors. Changes between 250 and 0 cm reflect both natural and human-induced changes in Bay phytoplankton.
