Readme File for digital version of Open-File Report 00-496: Weary, D.J., Ryder, R.T., and Nyahay, R., 2000, Thermal maturity patterns (CAI and %Ro) in the Ordovician and Devonian rocks of the Appalachian basin in New York State. ny_text.pdf is an Adobe Acrobat file including the text, with figures and tables 1 and 2 of the paper document. This file, when printed out, will closely resemble the original paper version of this publication. *Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print the .pdf files. table3.pdf and table4.pdf are Adobe Acrobat files for printing tables 3 and 4. table3.xls and table4.xls are Microsoft Excel files for tables 3 and 4. This was the native format for compilation of these tables and will enable any user with Microsoft Office or Excel to view, sort, and print the data from those tables. The \arcview_data subdirectory contains arcview data as shapefiles in the \arcview_data\ny_cai_files subdirectory, the metadata file - ny_metadata.txt, and an Arcview project file - ny_therm.apr, which will display the data. All themes are projected to stateplane projection, nad27 datum. The point and line data is basically a georeferenced subset of that in the tables and figures of the paper. As listed in the ENTITY_AND_ATTRIBUTE_INFORMATION setion of the metadata, a description of the point data is: user defined point data: ny_api# is the American Petroleum Institute suffix number for each well. Ocai_min is the minimum CAI value for an Ordovician conodont sample, ranges from 1 to 5 Ocai_max is the maximum CAI value for an Ordovician conodont sample, ranges from 1 to 5 Dcai_min is the minimum CAI value for a Devonian conodont sample, ranges from 1 to 4 Dcai_min is the maximum CAI value for a Devonian conodont sample, ranges from 1 to 4 %Ro is the vitrinite reflectance value for a Devonian black shale sample Vector data: O_cai is interpreted Ordovician CAI isogad line, values from 1.5 to 5 D_cai is interpreted Devonian CAI isograd line, values from 1.5 to 3.5 Isograd lines included as vector data are interpreted; users may wish to make their own interpretation. *ArcView 3.1 or higher is required to view the ny_therm.apr file.
