These data are maintained in a system called DAN-NY (Disposal Analysis System – NY). DAN-NY includes data from Inspector Logs (data recorded by inspectors on the barges), and more recently data acquired by NYDISS (New York Disposal Surveillance System). The NYDISS automatically records the location of the barge when placement begins and ends. For material placed between November 1996 and November 1998, the plotted locations are from Inspector Logs. For the material placed between November 1998 and April 2000, the placement location was determined by NYDISS. This Open-File Report utilizes the location (latitude and longitude), date of placement, and volume of material in the scow from these data bases. Purpose: The purpose of this project is to map the surficial geology of the sea floor of Historic Area Remediation Site (HARS) and changes in surficial characteristics over time. This GIS project presents multibeam and other data in a digital format for analysis and display by scientists, policy makers, managers and the general public. This area was covered with a minimum of one meter of sand (approximately 2.4 million cubic yards or 1.83 million cubic meters) dredged from the Ambrose entrance channel to New York harbor. This sand was slowly released from scows and/or hopper dredges along ship tracks oriented north to south. Capping was completed in February 1998.
