INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF THE NEVADA TEST SITE (REV 4.0) DATABASE: The ARC-export (.e00) files for the Digital Geologic Map of the Nevada Test Site and Vicinity (Open-File-Report 99-554-A) are contained in the file ofr-99-0554-e00.tar.gz. The data was compiled and is intended for use on the UNIX platform. The data may be used on the Windows/PC platform, but the included AML's may need to be altered slightly. In order to access the data, the file must be downloaded to your computer's hard drive, uncompressed with gzip, and untarred. This will generate a subdirectory called ofr-99-0554-e00 containing all of the export files, shade/linesets, fonts, AML's, projection files, and metadata neccessary for using the database. The description of map units and printable versions of the map plates are available in PDF format (greenwood.cr.usgs.gov/pub/open-file-reports/ofr-99-0554) along with the accompanying geophysical maps (OFR-99-0554B and OFR-99-0554C). Once the data has been uncompressed and untarred: The subdirectory must be made an ARC/INFO workspace. This may be done by starting ARC from the directory below /ofr-99-0554-e00 and using the command 'CREATEWORKSPACE ofr-99-0554-e00'. Included with the database are two AML's (import.aml and drawmap.aml). Change workspaces to the /ofr-99-0554-e00 workspace and run the import.aml file ('&run import'). This will import all of the files into the appropriate ARC/INFO coverages. The metadata will now correspond to the data in this workspace correctly. By running the drawmap.aml file ('&run drawmap') you can generate an ARC/INFO graphics file equivalent to Plate 1 of the report.
