This is Bruce Smith measuring the magnetic field on a profile that passes the Frenchie deposit on Woewodski Island. The devise is a proton-precession (total field) magnetometer. The "Jacob Staff" he holds in his left hand is designed to maintain the sensor (the white can on the end of the staff) a measured distance away from the ground and from the operator; this is done in order to minimize noise.
