Iron and Steel Recycling in the United States in 1998

Revision

This report has been revised to reflect the fact that a line of text was left out of the second paragraph of page 6. In version 1.0, the following words should follow "(Matthews, 2000)" in the second paragraph: Companies continue to expand production about 2% each year as profits decline. Excess steel production from major steelmaking nations is being imported into the United States because of its strong economy and open market system.

This report is preliminary and has not been reviewed for conformity with U.S. Geological Survey editorial standards or with the North American Stratigraphic Code. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government
