The sequence on the left, from the upper (limestone-bearing) part of the Minturn, coarsens upward from thin marine limestone (blue) to shale and siltstone (gray) and sandstone (yellow); depositional environments range from marine to alluvial. The sequence on the right, from the lower part of the Minturn, coarsens upward from marine shale and sandstone (gray and yellow, respectively) to graded turbidite sandstones (black) and crossbedded delta distributary sandstones (yellow) that are quite commonly conglomeratic. Symbols represent ripples, graded bedding, crossbedding, deltaic foresets, and fossil brachiopods, crinoids, and plant remains.
