The revised dataset contains information about 5219 mineral deposits in Wyoming. Purpose: To map the distribution of mineral deposits in Wyoming. Data_Set_Part: Part_Type: MapInfo table file Part_Name: WY_MAS.tab Data_Set_Part: Part_Type: ArcView shape file Part_Name: WY_MAS.shp Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Single_Date/Time: Calendar_Date: 2000 Currentness_Reference: The MAS/MILS data were downloaded in 1997 and published by McFaul and others in 2000. This dataset is based on the 2000 data. MAS/MILS was actively updated until approximately 1995. For this report, Terry Klein extensively edited and verified the MAS/MILS entries, deleted duplicate entries, and added missing sites. Anna Wilson and Bill Heran corrected the locations of a large number of deposits, matching them, where possible, to sites in the USGS Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS) database. These changes have been submitted to the database managers, but have not yet been incorporated. Thus, this dataset supersedes the master database. In general, most deposits are within about 1 mile of their actual location. There is variation in what is considered the deposit location-- sometimes this is at or near the center of the deposit, sometimes the main entrance to a mine or the most well known adit or shaft. It is not possible, from the description provided, to know how the deposit is located. Completeness_Report: It is likely that deposits are missing from the database. Most deposits that have been discussed in the literature are included, but deposits that have not been reported in the mining or geology literature are likely to have been missed. Logical_Consistency_Report: The mine locations are subject to interpretation. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Accuracy was not calculated. In general, the deposits should be within a mile of their actual location, but in many cases the uncertainty may be on the order of several miles.
