GAMMA COUNTER

There are two different gamma counters: Planar and Well.


PLANAR GAMMA COUNTING
Materials Required:
  • Planar Gamma Sample
  • Kimwipe
  • Planar Gamma Counter
Gamma Sample
Lift up on handle and rotate the cover clockwise. Close up of handle

Before placing the aliquot on the detector, wipe it off (particularly the bottom) with a Kimwipe.

Empty detector is seen here (with a plastic glove over detector window, which should be replaced every 1-2 months).

Inside Gamma Counter
Place sample securely on top of the detector. Sample in Gamma Detector
Gently close the lid and put handle back down into locked position. Gamma Counter

WELL GAMMA COUNTING
Materials Required:
  • Well Gamma Sample
  • Plastic Glove
  • Well Gamma Counter
Sample in glove

Open the lock and swing open the lid.

Open Gamma lid

Place the sample securely (which should be in a plastic glove as shown above -- the thumb of the glove usually works best) into the well.

Gently close the lid and lock it. Well Gamma Counter
