Lead Bricks for Detector Support Assembly

(as viewed from above with front of castle at bottom)

View of Bricks for Detector Support Assembly

After the body of the lead castle is constructed, six lead bricks (shown here in grey) are positioned on the floor of the castle along the inner walls. Four 8" long bricks and two 6" long bricks are placed on edge, forming a 4" high ledge to hold the aluminum detector support assembly.   Click here to view a detailed schematic diagram of the detector support assembly.

NOTE:  A 5/8" thick aluminum plate is placed on top of the final layer forming the body of the castle. The plate is 32" by 32" square and a one inch hole is drilled through the center of the plate to allow passage of the cable from the photomultiplier tube to the PC.  Three additional layers of lead bricks form the roof of the castle, which are stacked on top of the aluminum plate.
