Contaminated Sediments Database for Long Island Sound and the New York Bight, USGS Open-File Report 03-241


A histogram showing the various source types used in the database compilation. Data were compiled from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)). In addition, books, academic theses, data reports, and professional journals were searched and summarized. Electronic datasets were used from NOAA's Mussel Watch, Benthic Surveillance, and National Status and Trends programs. EPA data was used from their Storage and Retrieval system (STORET) and their Regional and Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Programs (REMAP and EMAP). USGS data came from data reports by Hathaway and Poppe. USACE data were obtained and entered from permit files.
