MINERAL: Zircon

FORMULA: ZrSiO4

FORMULA_HTML: ZrSiO4

COLLECTION_LOCALITY: Gurpui, Goias, Brazil

ORIGINAL_DONOR: Ward Scientific

CURRENT_SAMPLE_LOCATION: USGS Denver Spectroscopy Laboratory

ULTIMATE_SAMPLE_LOCATION: USGS Denver Spectroscopy Laboratory

SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION:

XRD_ANALYSIS:

40 kV - 30 mA, 6.5-9.5 keV
File: zircn522.out, -.mdi
Reference: Borg and Smith (1969).
Found: zircon, trace quartz?

Comment: Zircon very well crystallized. An very weak but distinct reflection that is not indexable as ziron lies in the position of the strong quartz (100). The strongest quartz reflection (101) lies at the position of the strong zircon (200) and thus could not be seen, if present.
