Goethite coated Chlorite Phyllite. Part of lower Cambrian Harkless Phyllite that was altered around 7.0 Ma by hydrothermal fluids. Sample is from the core propylitic zone of the western hydrothermal center.

SPECTROSCOPIC_DISCUSSION:

Spectrum is that of goethite and chlorite with possibly a trace of muscovite as indicated by the weak absorption at 2.2045 microns. Goethite absorptions superimposed on those of chlorite in the electronic region (0.35 to 1.35 microns). Sample may contain magnetite which may depress the overall spectral level.
