a warning message is written to the screen and the to file r1.out indicating the layers in which the magnitude of the velocity gradient vector is greater than dvmax (km/s/km) and the layer boundaries having a change in slope across three successive points of greater than dsmax (degrees) (defaults: infinite, infinite)
