The map database, which is at 1:50,000-scale resolution, provides geologic coverage of an area of current hydrologic, and stratigraphic interest. The Seco Creek Area is located in Medina County about 25 km northwest of San Antonio. The map area is underlain by sedimentary rocks of Cretaceous and Quaternary age that were offset by a series of normal faults. Purpose: Provide a digital geologic map database of the area that improves understanding of the regional geologic framework and its influence on ground water and surface water flow. Supplemental_Information: The current map database incorporates geologic data from geologic mapping (1997 - 1999) by Edward W. Collins from the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology and more recent geologic mapping (2003 - 2004) by Charles D. Blome and Jason R. Faith from the U. S. Geological Survey. >FILES INCLUDED WITH THIS DATA SET: >scrgeology.shp geology in the Seco Creek area >scrfaults.shp fault in the Seco Creek area >scrquads.shp 24k quadrangles in the Seco Creek area >scrcntyline.shp boundary between Medina and Uvalde Counties >scrroads.shp state and county roads in the Seco Creek area >scrstreams.shp creeks and rivers in the Seco Creek area >scrcaves.shp caves or sinkholes in the Seco Creek area >scrcontours.shp contours at a 20 foot contour interval Any use of trade, product, or firm names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government. Although this Federal Geographic Data Committee-compliant metadata file is intended to document the data set in nonproprietary form, as well as in ARC/INFO format, this metadata file may include some ARC/INFO-specific terminology. Attributes were checked by manually comparing hard copy plots of the digital data with the source materials. Authors and USGS map editors performed separate reviews. Logical_Consistency_Report: Map elements were visually checked by the authors for overshoots, undershoots, duplicate features, and other errors. ARC/INFO software was used to create topological relations among features. Features were not duplicated, but coincident lines exist between data layers where appropriate. Completeness_Report: Geologic map units were collected and digitized at appropriate resolution for portrayal at 1:50,000 scale. Data are complete: no features were eliminated or generalized. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: The data were created by delineating the boundaries from scale-stable overlays on 7.5-minute topographic maps at 1:24000 scale. Stable overlays were scanned at a resolution of 300 dots per inch. Potential exists for errors in location by the geologist in the field.
