Why was the data set created?

The data was developed as part of ongoing studies on coastal erosion, the evaluation of nonfuel mineral resources and the identification of sand resources on the Gulf of Mexico's inner continental shelf suitable for beach nourishment programs.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    GSA (source 1 of 1)
Geological Survey of Alabama, Various, Offshore Sand Resources and Shoreline Profiles of the Alabama Coastal Region.

    Type_of_Source_Media: electronic tabular data
    Source_Scale_Denominator: unknown
    Source_Contribution: spatial and attribute information

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 1)
Electronic tabular coordinate data were brought into a common coordinate system using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Corpscon for Windows Version 5.11.07. An ArcInfo point coverage was then created using the ArcInfo GENERATE command. Additional attributes were added using the ArcInfo JOINITEM command.
