Why was the data set created?

This shapefile was generated as an intermediate step while creating a series of USGS LIDAR maps. Its polygons represent specific regions of a 2x2km tile that have usable LIDAR data. All areas not covered by polygons correspond to areas of No Data on the LIDAR tile. This shapefile is particularly useful as an analysis mask within Spatial Analyst.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: February 2006 (process 1 of 3)
The floating-point LIDAR data needs to be converted to an integer raster. This is done with the Int() command within the Raster Calculator.

    Date: February 2006 (process 2 of 3)
Then the Raster to Feature command is used to convert the data into a vector shapefile.

    Date: February 2006 (process 3 of 3)
An attribute query is run to locate polygons with a GRIDCODE value of -100. An edit session is started on the shapefile, the queried polygons are removed using the delete key, edits are saved, and the edit session is ended.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

    This layer is complete.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

This layer was generated from an existing lidar tile.
