  Description:
    Abstract: These are polygon and raster data sets derived from 2002 Landsat Thematic Mapper Satellite Imagery that indicates areas of land and areas of water in Louisiana. The interface is for the entire state within a 10 mile buffer. There are 4 layers: a 3 acre filter layer, a 5 acre filter layer, a 25 acre filter layer, and a 1 acre filter raster layer.
    Purpose: This dataset was created in order to define the shoreline and to provide a classified feature use in GIS systems and modeling. This data is not to be used for legal, property description, navigation, or other site specific applications.
    Supplemental_Information: A filtering threshold of 3-acres was used to create this land-water interface.  Land and water polygons smaller than 3-acres are not visible in this data layer.

        The steps taken to create the 3 acre filter, 5 acre filter, and 25 acre filter layers are as follows:
        1. Subset scenes to bands 3, 4, 5.2.
        2. Mosaic scenes in same path.
        3. Classify land and water.
        4. Create land/water mask.
        5. Mosaic land/water mask paths.
        6. Create 10 mile buffer from state boundary.
        7. Cut land/water mask mosaic using buffer.
        8. Eliminate land and water areas less than 1 acre, 3 acres, 5 acres, and 25
        acres, creating 4 filtered land/water mask files.
        9. Convert raster masks to polygon vectors.
        10. Smooth the vectors.
        11. Create shapefiles.
        12. Add land/water class column based on grid code.
        13. Reproject to Geographic NAD83 Datum

        1. Subset scenes to bands 3, 4, 5.2.
        2. Mosaic scenes in same path.
        3. Classify land and water.
