This is a Vector data set. It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is D_WGS_1984.
The ellipsoid used is WGS_1984.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.000000.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.257224.
Sequential unique whole numbers that are automatically generated.
Coordinates defining the features.

This dataset contains shot point navigation at even 500 shot intervals for approximately 253 km of EdgeTech SB-424 chirp seismic-reflection data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey - Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center in 2010. The seismic-reflection data are used to define sub-surface stratigraphy offshore of the Elizabeth Islands in MA, and these navigation data can help spatially correlate the seismic-reflection profiles with other data in the GIS.

The SB-424 was towed from a starboard-side davit with 2-m of cable out on the R/V Rafael. The navigation for these data were acquired with an Communications Systems International (CSI), Inc. LGBX Pro Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) receiver and an antenna mounted on the cabin of the R/V Rafael. Unless noted, all DGPS data are referenced to WGS84. The SonarWiz.MAP +SBP acquisition software logged the navigation coordinates (in arcseconds) to individual trace headers, but towfish layback and horizontal distance between the CSI antenna and the towfish was not accounted for. Based on horizontal offsets between the towfish and GPS receiver, and towfish motion behind the vessel, the resulting horizontal accuracy is assumed to be +/- 25 m.
l8f3 and l26f1.001 had fewer than 50 shot points, so these lines were not included.
Any spurious data points were removed during processing. File naming is generally lxfy. Where x is the survey line number and y is the file number along a given survey line. There are a few exceptions that resulted from autofile changing in SonarWiz.MAP +SBP. A few lines are named lxfy_, and a few others are lxfy_00z; where x and y are the same as above and z is the autofile change number.
