Purpose: This digital database and the accompanying map and text provide a regional-scale depiction of the stratigraphy and structural geology of the Basin and Range in northwest Arizona. They were prepared in support of the Northwest Alluvial Basins Geohydrologic Study. Supplemental_Information: This geodatabase was compiled predominantly from published and unpublished geologic maps ranging in scale from 1:12,000 to 1:250,000. Areas not covered by these maps were filled in with information interpreted from a variety of satellite (30 m pixal size) and National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) airborne imagery. This geodatabase includes the 'geology250k' feature dataset: Feature classes: bedding and foliation attitudes (abatd_pt) fold axes (abfold_arc) geologic contacts and faults (abglg_arc) geologic unit polygons (abglg_poly)ab geologic unit points (abglg_pt) Annotation classes: bedding and foliation annotation (abatd_ptAnno) geologic unit annotation (abglg_ptAnno) Relationship classes: abatd_ptAnno - links abatd_pt to abatd_ptAnno abglg_ptAnno - links abglg_pt to abglg_ptAnno The accompanying style file (AlluvialBasinsGeo.style) contains the cartographic symbols that were applied to each feature class in ArcMap to create the actual map. Native_Data_Set_Environment: ESRI ArcGIS 9.3.1 Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Geologic features in this geodatabase were symbolized based on attributes and plotted at 1:250,000-scale, then visually reviewed for accuracy by the authors. The geodatabase was checked for polygon adjacency issues such as internal contacts and fault logic. Logical_Consistency_Report: This geodatabase has been reviewed and is considered to be error-free. All features have attributes. Each line segment has a length and directionality that is appropriate for the geologic feature it depicts. No sliver polygons are present. Topological integrity of the data is maintained in the geodatabase by the following rules: 1) must not self overlap, 2) must not self-intersect, 3) must not intersect or touch interior, 4) must not have dangles, 5) must be single part, 6) must not have pseudos. Completeness_Report: This geodatabase is considered complete. All geologic features depicted on the source maps were digitized and attributed. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Most of the geologic features in this database were digitized from other datasets and location accuracy is unknown due to uncertainties introduced by 1) unknown accuracy of the original data sources (as cited in the 'source' attribute field), and 2) distortions inherited from the scanning and georeferencing of the original source data. Note: Refer to metadata for each feature class for detailed information about the positional accuracy of features. Lineage: Source_Information: Source_Contribution: This digital database was compiled dominantly from published and unpublished geologic maps ranging in scale from 1:12,000 to 1:250,000. Areas not covered by these maps were filled in with information dervied from a variety of satellite and airborne imagery. Refer to the reference section in the accompanying pamphlet and the SOURCE attribute field in the abglg_pt, abglg_poly, and abatd_pt feature classes (geology250k feature dataset) for a complete list of data sources and a description of the compilation process. Process_Step: Process_Description: Mapping was accomplished using a combination of compilation from existing source material, supplemented by mapping on satellite imagery and aerial photographs. Geologic data from original mapping sources was scanned and saved in TIF format or obtained as PDF files and converted to TIF format. The TIF files were georeferenced in ArcMap to 1:24,000-scale DRGs, aerial photography, or satellite imagery using a 1st-order polynomial transformation. The scanned source maps and DRGs were used as a guide from which geologic data were digitized. The ArcCatalog process "Create new polygon feature class from lines and points" was used to create geologic unit polygons from digitized contacts (abglg_arc) and unit labels (abglg_pt). Each feature class was symbolized based on attributes and edited as needed to achieve an error-free database.
