This shapefile is meant to complement an Administrative report completed in January 2006 by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for the Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Wind River Agency, Minerals Division; the report is entitled: “A preliminary data report for the geologic and scenic quality evaluation of selected sand and gravel sites on the Wind River Indian Reservation, Wyoming”, prepared by William H. Langer, Belinda Arbogast, David A. Lindsey, and Bradley S. Van Gosen Purpose: This dataset was developed to provide a geologic map GIS database of previously mapped sand and gravel deposits within the Wind River Indian Reservation, Wyoming. Mr. Langer georeferenced the digital map in ArcMap. The resulting geologic maps were digitally superimposed upon digital USGS 1:24,000 scale topographic quadrangles. Using ArcMap, the sand and gravel deposits mapped by Morris and others (1959) and McGreevy and others (1969) were hand digitized on-screen by Bradley Van Gosen (USGS, Denver, CO) by digitizing areas of one section at a time (approximately one square mile) using a screen- view scale of 1:12,000. The geologic mapping was adjusted to match the topography (as viewed at 1:12,000).
