The hydrogeologic and geochemical study of the Black Canyon thermal springs by the U.S. Geological Survey was funded by the National Park Service and National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program of the U.S. Geological Survey. The compilation was augmented by new field geologic mapping and geochronology data. Hardcopy source geologic maps were scanned and georeferenced to 1:24,000-scale DRG's using a first-order polynomial transformation. Geologic features were then heads-up digitized to produce a digital compilation of each source map in geodatabase format. The individual geodatabases were merged into a single database that was clipped to the study area boundary. Editing was performed as needed to update the geology in areas where new geologic mapping had taken place, and to generalize areas of more detailed mapping so that the data resolution througout the database was appropriate for display at 1:48,000-scale. Geologic unit polygons (MapUnitPolys) were generated by the FeatureToPolygon command, with ContactsAndFaults as input features, and MapUnitPoints as label features.
