New igneous zircon (U-Pb) age dating results of 11 rock samples taken in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (IRM), Africa in 2007 by joint USGS-Mauritanian scientists during field trips to mineral exploration targets. See the geology report for more detailed information.
Created for the "Second Projet de Renforcement Institutionnel du Secteur Minier (PRISM II)" co-financed by the Government of Mauritania and the World Bank (Credit No. IDA-38100 MAU). New geochronology results are important in understanding the geology and evolution of Mauritania's main bedrock provinces.

Locations are based on handheld GPS units of latitude/longitude taken during field work in 2007.
Points were derived from a table of lat/long values recorded from a GPS unit used in the field. Attributes were added by authors from the results of geochronology dating. See the geology report for more detailed information.
