Preliminary Bedrock and Surficial Geologic Map of the West Half of the Sanders 30' x 60' Quadrangle, Navajo and Apache Counties, Northern Arizona ArcGIS Personal GeoDatabase Tags geologic map, Sanders Summary This geodatabase and accompanying pamphlet provide information on the geologic structure and stratigraphy of the area and are intended to be of use both in the scientific community and within the context of resource management activities in the area. ISSN 2331-1258 (online) http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/ofr20141124 Description This geodatabase (Sanders_west.mdb) represents the general distribution of bedrock and surficial deposits in the west half of the Sanders 30' x 60' quadrangle. The database delineates map units identified by general age and lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. Mapping was a cooperative effort of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Navajo Nation. The structure of this geodatabase and its associated feature classes, as well as the feature class naming conventions, loosely follows The National Park Service Geologic Resources Inventory GIS Geodatabase Data Model v.2.1, which can be found at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm This geodatabase includes the following: Feature classes: sanders_w_atd (structure data) sanders_w_fld (fold axes) sanders_w_line (contacts and faults) sanders_w_point (geologic unit points) sanders_w_poly (geologic unit polygons) sanders_w_vpf (volcanic vents) Annotation feature classes: sanders_w_atdAnno (structure data annotation) sanders_w_pointAnno (geologic unit annotation) Relationship classes: sanders_w_atdAnno - links sanders_w_atd to sanders_w_atdAnno sanders_w_pointAnno - links sanders_w_point to sanders_w_pointAnno Related table: sanders_w_lmu (list of map units) Style file sanders_west.style contains the symbols used to create the cartographic depiction of the data. Credits This geodatabase was prepared by Lee Amoroso and Susan Priest. Technical review was provided by George Billingsley and Richard Hereford of the U.S. Geological Survey. Digital review was provided by Debra Block of the U.S. Geological Survey. Prepared in cooperation with the Najavo Nation. Use limitations Not for use at scales greater than 1:50,000. Data Quality SCOPE OF QUALITY INFORMATION RESOURCE LEVEL: dataset DATA QUALITY REPORT - CONCEPTUAL CONSISTENCY MEASURE DESCRIPTION This geodatabase has been reviewed and is considered to be error-free. All features have attributes. Each line segment has a length and directionality that is appropriate for the geologic feature it depicts. No sliver polygons are present. Geologic lines (sanders_w_line) and geologic units (sanders_w_poly) are topologically related entities. The following topology rules were employed to maintain the topological integrity of the data: geologic lines (1) must not self-overlap, (2) must not self-intersect, (3) must not have pseudonodes, (4) must not intersect or touch interior, (5) must be single part, and (6) must not have dangles [excepting faults]; geologic unit polygons (1) must not overlap, (2) must not have gaps, and (3) boundary must be covered by [sanders_w_line]. EVALUATION TYPE: direct internal EVALUATION METHOD Topology was validated and errors were fixed or flagged as exceptions. Additionally, feature class sanders_w_poly was checked for sliver polygons by searching for anomalously small values in the Shape_Area field. Feature class sanders_w_line was checked to ensure the length and directionality of each line segment was appropriate for the geologic feature it depicts. DATA QUALITY REPORT - QUANTITATIVE ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY MEASURE DESCRIPTION Geologic features in the geodatabase were symbolized based on attributes, plotted at 1:24,000-scale and reviewed for geologic integrity and accuracy. EVALUATION TYPE: indirect DATA QUALITY REPORT - COMPLETENESS OMISSION MEASURE DESCRIPTION This geodatabase is considered complete. All geologic features depicted on the aerial photos were digitized and attributed. EVALUATION TYPE: indirect DATA QUALITY REPORT - ABSOLUTE EXTERNAL POSITIONAL ACCURACY DIMENSION: horizontal MEASURE DESCRIPTION Lines in feature class sanders_w_line with the modifier 'certain' in the Type field (e.g. contact_certain) are assumed (but not guaranteed) to be located within approximately +/- 30 meters of their actual position on the ground, while lines with modifiers 'approximate', 'inferred', and 'concealed' are assumed to be poorly located, and may have errors that greatly exceed +/- 30 meters. All points in feature class sanders_w_atd are assumed (but not guaranteed) to be located within approximately +/- 30 meters of their actual position on the ground. Points in feature class sanders_w_point are for cartographic purposes only, and have no specific spatial relevance. EVALUATION TYPE: indirect Lineage LINEAGE STATEMENT The database was compiled using a combination of field investigations and aerial photo interpretation. Geologic features were heads-up digitized to produce a digital map in geodatabase format. Geologic unit polygons (sanders_w_poly) were generated by the FeatureToPolygon command, with sanders_w_line as input features, and sanders_w_point as label features.
