Abstract:

This feature class consists of a Rhode Island state boundary that was dissolved to exclusively feature the Rhode Island coastline and inland political boundary. All polygons not designated as "land" within the source dataset were deleted from this product before the internal polygons were dissolved based on a single code.

Purpose:

The purpose of this feature class is to solely act as a "soft clip" for the 5KDTM_terrain dataset distributed by RIGIS. Users of the 5KDTM_terrain data may decide that they would prefer to use a different soft clip for the terrain.

Users are encouraged to evaluate these data for themselves and are encouraged to use the source data available from RIGIS as they may prefer to use a different soft clip, if any, for the 5KDTM_terrain dataset.

Process_Description:

All polygons where LAND did not equal "Y" were deleted. A new attribute, CODE, was added to the dataset. All polygons were calculated to have CODE = 1. Finally, the dataset was dissolved using the CODE field. The result of this analysis consists of the Rhode Island coastline, teamed with its internal political boundary. The purpose of the analysis was to remove elevation points that were either 1) salt water, or 2) outside the RI political boundary.
