Abstract:
This geodatabase is a point data set that includes geochemical analyses from three major data sets, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Alaska Geochemical Database (AGDB2), National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) database, and Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (ADGGS) geochemical database. Sample media include stream sediment, rock, mineral, heavy-mineral concentrate, and soil. For samples that have been analyzed by more than one method, only the determination by the 'best' method is given for each element. The ranking criteria used for determining 'best value' is described in detail in Granitto and others, 2013. Each feature class is also provided as a shapefile, and the associated geodatabase table is provided as a text file.
Purpose:
The geochemistry data layers were created to provide geochemical analyses to aid in estimating the potential and certainty of various mineral deposit models in the state of Alaska.

The data in this dataset represent the analyses of geologic material collected by several agencies for various projects with differing analytical needs. The data was also collected and analyzed over a period of more that 50 years, and during that time analytical methods have changed. Some samples were analyzed for a specific element in multiple ways. This dataset provides the 'best value' as determined by a method described in Granitto and others, 2013.
In order to maintain the analyses in numeric fields suitable for calculations, a few numeric codes were used. The value -9999 is used when that particular element was not analyzed. Other negative values mean that the element was detected but at a level below the lower limit of the analytical method and the lower limit is the absolute value of the value listed. Values with repeating '1's after the decimal represent measurements above the upper detection limit for the analytical method.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Each of the original contributing datasets had its own data structure and criteria. As a combined single dataset, field AK_ID is the unique field. Data from USGS has unique identifier LAB_ID, data from NURE has NURE_REC_NO, and data from ADGGS has ADGGS_ID.
Completeness_Report:
Not all samples were analyzed for each element or by the same analytical method. The analytical method used was selected by the sample submitter based on the goals of his/her project. More detailed descriptions of the AGDB2, analytical methods, and sample preparation protocols are provided in Granitto and others, 2013.

Users must be aware that the locational accuracy is an unknown factor because of background of each contributing dataset. Resolution is variable and range from 5 digit GPS precision to the corner of the topographic base map. We present the location information as we received it in the attribute fields LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, and DATUM.

This geochemistry database is a compilation of three geochemical databases with statewide distribution of geologic materials. Each of the three contributing datasets has its own file structure and data format. In order to produce a single dataset, the original datasets needed to be reformatted for consistency, statistical analyses, and mapping.
Each original dataset had a unique identifier, LAB_ID for AGDB2, NURE_REC_NO for the NURE database, and ADGGS_ID for the samples provided by Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys, ADGGS. The ADGGS data is available for downloaded from the ADGGS WebGeoChem website, http://www.dggs.alaska.gov/webgeochem. Attribute AK_ID is a unique identifier created for this compilation data set.
For samples that may have had an element analyzed by more than one analytical method, only the 'best value' is provided. See Granitto and others, 2013 for description of how 'best value' is determined.
The original location information was provided in several datums or geodetic systems. The point feature class is presented in Alaska Albers NAD 83, however the original latitude, longitude, and datum are listed in the feature attribute table. Datum NAD 27 was assumed for samples for which the datum was not available.
