Excerpt of Bed-material Statistics file (****_bms.txt)

All file station names with the suffix "_bms" have the following arrangement:

A group of six or less bed-material samples collected at centroids of equal discharge across the stream is listed in rows.

Each row tabulates the D5 through D90 grain diameters, in millimeters, of each sample, followed by the Folk sorting index.

An intervening row of false values (.002) separates groups of bed-material samples for ease in graphical plotting.

For example, you can use a "clipping" command to prevent plotting of values less than 0.01, so that a continuous plot of the serial-date column versus D50 will yield dots on bar lines separated by gaps (as in figure 71 ).
