Description:

Abstract:

From the early 1930's to the present, the Nebraska Conservation and Survey Division (CSD) has drilled 'test holes' to examine the geology and hydrogeology of Nebraska. The wells emphasized stratigraphy and water supply. On-site sample description, and collection of samples for analysis were major parts of the 'survey' mission. Over 4500 wells have been drilled as part of the testhole program. CSD geoscientists described the drilling logs in detail on site, and later. Reworking of the log and description are common, as staff and abilities change. This database is the archive of that effort. This database emphasizes location, a parallel set of log books describes the wells.

Most testholes were located using legal description and footages from known points. This database derives its coordinates from a program that converts legal locations to Latitude/Longitude. At its best, assuming a standard size section and township, the location is within 160 and 10 acre area. Footages would be more accurate, but in many cases the known spot is not spatially identified. The "center of the roadway"; in 1939 or the "railroad bridge" in 1952 are not easily located today.

Logical_Consistency_Report:

A search of the written logs ferreted out more than 100 'lost holes'. They were incorporated as found.
