<dc:description><p>A continuous extraction apparatus is described. It extracts and simultaneously concentrates organic solutes from water. Any immiscible solvent can be used in this apparatus if the solute will partition between the solvent and water. A concentration factor of up to 105 is obtained with this technique. The dipole moment difference between the solute and solvent is demonstrated to be an index of the extraction efficiency. Optimum extraction of a given molecular species may be obtained by use of this index.</p></dc:description>
