<dc:description>Sulfolobus acidocaldarius strains 98-3 and B12, and S. solfataricus ATCC 35091 were evaluated for tolerance to Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn and Mg. The tolerance of strains 98-3 and ATCC 35091 to these metals was Mg > Zn > Cd > Cu ??? Co > Ni. For B12, however, the order of tolerance was Mg > Cd > Zn = Co > Ni > Cu. Tolerance to these metals is also presented as a potentially useful taxonomic indicator.</dc:description>
