<dc:description><p>Quantitative estimates of ground-water pumpage from the principal ground-water basins in California are necessary for future appraisal studies, for constructing hydrologic&nbsp; models, and for systematic planning of water use and conservation. Methods of estimating pumpage for this report are based on metered pumpages, on electric-power consumption and fuel consumption by internal-combustion engines or agricultural wells, and on duty of water for municipal areas. This report is the third of a series planned to include the Central Valley of California.</p></dc:description>
