<dc:description>
In the period 1964 to 1974, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted various seismic reflection and rock-sampling cruises in the continental borderland of southern California. This map report, on two near-shore basins, the Santa Monica and the San Pedro (sheet 1, figs. 1 and 2), is based on data obtained during these surveys. The tracklines in these basins are shown on sheet 1, fig. 3.

H. G. Greene, D. S. McCulloch, J. G. Vedder, R. F. Yerkes, and especially G. W. Moore kindly made available all seismic and sample data obtained on their cruises aboard the M/V OIL CITY, R/V POLARIS and R/V G. B. KELEZ during this period. The assistance of Capt. J. M. Cox on several cruises of the R/V KELEZ was particularly noteworthy. Micropaleontological determinations on offshore U.S. Geological Survey samples were made by David Bukry and R. E. Arnal. D. S. Mc-Culloch and J. G. Vedder made many helpful suggestions.
</dc:description>
