  <dc:description>Holocene sediment, composed mainly of foram tests, occurs on the flanks of the Tanner and Cortes Banks, offshore southern California. The organic matter in this sediment differs in content and composition from the organic matter in nearby basins. Two sources of hydrocarbons are indicated: terrestrial plants and biodegraded or immature petroleum.</dc:description>
