One hundred thirty seven new gravity stations at an average station density of one station per 17.5 km2 have been established in a 40 x 60 km area centered on Sabkhah Hazawza in the northwestern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A successful tie to existing Arabian American Oil Co. (ARAMCO) gravity data was made and a simple Bouguer gravity anomaly map was compiled during the survey. The map shows a distinct gravity low of about -8 mgal associated with the sabkhah, its minimum displaced to the northeast of the longitudinal axis of the sabkhah. However, the continuation of the gravity anomaly under the basalt field to the northeast suggests that the gravity anomaly is due to an older basin-like structure. If the sabkhah deposits are due to damming of ancient Wadi as Sirhan by basalt flows, then the deposits are probably thin. Preliminary estimates give a maximum thickness of about 270 m for the sedimentary fill causing the gravity anomaly.

The holes were drilled on a hexagonal pattern over an area about 50 m wide and 150 m long to obtain detailed information on environment of deposition and distribution of anomalous amounts of copper sulfides visible in outcrop, as well as to obtain samples for study of the geochemistry, isotope geology, mineralogy, and physical properties of the rocks and sulfide occurrences. Preliminary megascopic examination of the cores suggests that the purple and green colors represent original oxidizing and reducing environments of deposition on a relatively stable tidal flat and shallow shelf. Two of the five green beds contain zones of copper sulfides, largely bornite and chalcocite with trace amounts of chalcopyrite and covellite. The zones vary somewhat in thickness and stratigraphic position within the mineralized green beds. This report covers only the preliminary results of the ongoing multiple intensive studies of the drilling site and cores. These studies are part of an attempt to develop a model for green-bed copper- silver occurrences in Belt rocks of Proterozoic age. Pumping tests were made on April 14 and 15, 1978, and 10 injection tests were made between May 12 and June 30, 1978.
Selected tests were monitored in order to obtain data which could be used to assess the effects of subsurface disposal on the ground water in the basal aquifer. Pumping and injection rates were measured. Basal-water head responses to pumping and injection were observed at the prototype well and at two observation wells located 435 and 6 ,100 feet from the prototype well. Water-quality samples were collected at the prototype well and the nearest observation well prior to testing. Samples of the injection water, as well as samples from the observation wells, were collected prior to and after the final test.
The head data and water-quality data are presented in this report.

It is the second of three gazetteers that cover the offshore and coastal features of Alaska. Alaska was divided into three major regions - the Gulf of Alaska (Gerin and Molnia, 1978), the Bering Sea and Aleutian Arc, and the Arctic Seas. (Fig. 1) The Bering Sea was divided further into subregions, and the named features are grouped together by subregions. The subregions for the Bering Sea are: 1) the Aleutian Islands from Unimak to Attu, including the features of the store and trench; 2) the Bering Sea coast from Isanotski Strait on the Alaska Peninsula north to the Bering Strait, including Nunivak and Saint Lawrence Islands; and 3) the Bering Sea, offshore features from the Aleutian Islands to the Bering Strait. (Fig. 2)
The purpose of the gazetteer is to serve as a collection of named features of the region, both current and new names. This gazetteer provides a single source of names for coastal and offshore features rather than separate land and sea references. With the increased activity of offshore exploration there is an increased use of current and new names in reports and maps of the Bering Sea.

All these procudures present problems to the investigator. For example, analysis by methods other than instrumentation are unable to detect minute amounts of various trace elements and in general are not extremely accurate. Problems common to all procedures are (1) relatively large amounts of sample (2 grams or more) are required for analyses of even the more common trace elements and (2) contamination of samples is almost a certainty due to complicated sample preparation procedures which include large amounts of glassware, chemicals and excessive handling of the sample.
The development of new anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV methods (Matson, 1968) has provided investigators with an instrument which (1) is capable of accurately detecting trace elements in minute quantities, (2) utilizes very small amounts of sample (0.01 mg) , (3) works on a simple operating principle which simplifies sample preparation thereby reducing the possibility of contamination, (4) can be used aboard small boats, and (5) is relatively inexpensive (compared to other instruments used for trace element analysis). Recent ASV literature (Matson, 1968, Fitzgerald, 1970; Bradford, 1972) has dealt exclusively with the analysis of salt water and sediments and does not provide an adequate method for analysis of marine organic matter. This paper reports on an investigation designed to develop the methodology necessary for ASV analysis of organic material from the marine environment.
