Most of this gravity relief is indirectly related to regional topographic relief or lithologic variations that are revealed in the rock outcrops. However, some significant features of the gravity map are not easily explained by the map geology, and several important features on the geologic map seem to have little gravitational expression. These failures in correlation suggest that there may be considerable differences between the deep and shallow structures of the quadrangle. Understanding these differences may eventually alter the present estimates of the quadrangle's mineral potential.

Rock glacier deposits, colluvium, and solifluction deposits are included in some areas. Some till is mapped with landslide deposits because distinguishing these two deposits from one another is difficult: Furthermore, in some areas till has failed by landsliding and other types of mass movements. Movement within the deposits varies from none to rapid; rates of movement may also be variable in any given landslide within the same year. Ages of deposits' range from early Pleistocene to Holocene.

Basic data from the geologic map of the Fairbanks D-1 SW quadrangle (Map I-949, Pewe and others, in press), the map showing distribution of permafrost in the Fairbanks D-1 SW quadrangle (Map MF-671A, Pewe and Bell, 1975a), and the map showing foundation conditions in the Fairbanks D-1 SW quadrangle (Map MF 671D, Pewe and Bell, 1975c) have been used in conjunction with well data to establish generalized potential ground-water conditions.
