The major section of the catalog is the table of determinations which includes the cost, required sample volume, sample treatment, and precision. This table is divided into three sections: Inorganic determinations, organic determinations, and biological determinations.</p><p>The \"Inorganic determinations\" are subdivided into major ions, major nutrients, trace constituents, physical parameters, and radiochemical measurements. The \"Organic determinations\" are subdivided into gross measures, pesticides, and munition products. The \"Biological determinations\" are subdivided into gross measures, periphyton, phytoplankton and benthic invertebrates.</p><p>Regardless of the outline form attempted, exceptions and gray areas were encountered. Generally, exceptions were placed into the groups based on a sample designation. The Pronghorn mine is only one of the many energy developments that will result in an increase in county population from 21,000 in 1977 to 64,000 in 1990. Most of the population increase will occur in and near the City of Gillette, which already is experiencing inadequate housing, a lack of public services, and the social problems associated with \"boomtown\" conditions. The future increase in population will continue to impact all local government services, private businesses, and the residents of Gillette and Campbell County. Most of the impacts will be adverse. A majority of residents indicate that most government-provided services are currently in need of improvement.&nbsp;</p><p>Older residents of the county have experienced a change in traditional values, newer residents commonly experience a lack of acceptance. These experiences have psychologically impacted both old and new residents.&nbsp;</p><p>Although the county and the city are moving rapidly to accommodate the changes that are occurring, services will lag due to time and financial restraints. New taxes and mineral royalities will in time provide the financial support required to implement needed services, but between 1978 and 1982 the City of Gillette will be able to finance only $35 million of the $58 million needed for new facilities. After 1982, the city's financial position should improve rapidly. Financial impacts on the county and its school district will be negligble over the short-term and largely beneficial over the long-term.</p><p>A shortage of housing exists in the area, particularly the most desired single-family homes. High cost precludes the purchase of permanent housing by many new residents and, therefore, mobile homes supply much of the housing for new residents. The town of Wright, sponsored by the Atlantic Richfield Company, is presently a 311-unit mobile home park, housing a November 1977 population of 850. The town is planned for a maximum population of 6,000 people. No estimates were made for the unnamed field on lease P-0234 because well testing was not sufficient to allow a reasonable assessment. Of the 12 recognized fields, only two are producing and none is completely developed. Limits of many of the fields will be further defined by anticipated additional exploratory drilling. Original recoverable reserves in 11 fields are estimated to have been approximately 1,530 billion cubic feet of gas and about 830 million barrels of oil.</p><p>Reserve estimates for nine fields were based on individual volumetric reservoir studies. Decline curve and volumetric analyses were used to estimate reserves in two fields. Data from the San Fernando earthquake are examined to assess the effects of associated structures and of geologic site conditions on peak recorded motions. Small but statistically significant differences are observed in peak values of horizontal acceleration, velocity, and displacement recorded on soil at the base of small structures compared with values recorded at the base of large structures. Values of peak horizontal acceleration recorded at soil sites in the San Fernando earthquake are not significantly different from the values recorded at rock sites, but values of peak horizontal velocity and displacement are significantly greater at soil sites than at rock sites. Three recently published relationships for predicting peak horizontal acceleration are compared and discussed. The objective of this cruise was to study in detail specific potentially hazardous environmental conditions identified as a result of the first reconnaissance geo-environmental cruise conducted from June 18 through July 30, 1976 (Bouma and Hampton, 1976; Hampton and Bouma, 1976). In particular, the distribution and movement of seafloor bedforms were studied in lower Cook Inlet, and sediment dispersal patterns and submarine sediment slides were investigated on the Kodiak shelf and slope. High resolution seismic profiling (sparker, uniboom, minisparker, 3.5 khz, 12 khz) and side-scanning sonar surveys formed the basis for selecting stations for observations with bottom television and 70 mm bottom camera as well as for different types of sampling of surficial sediments (piston corer, gravity corer, hydroplastic corer, Soutar grab sampler). We conclude that the most efficient way to search for exploration targets is to collect rock samples from the ledges and analyze for the following elements in decreasing order of priority: gold, lead and silver, bismuth, and mercury. A fluorometric extraction method of analysis was used on both sets of samples. Duplicate samples from pumped wells in Pueblo County, Colorado were used.</p><p>Regression and correlation statistical analysis indicated that while analytical results of the two sets of samples had a highly significant correlation (r = 0.98), the ion-filter samples yielded only 20 percent as much uranium as the 1-liter water samples. It is possible to predict U values from the ion-filter analysis results that would be comparable with the values for the 1-liter samples, using the linear regression formula. The predicted values, however, compared with the 1-liter values, using a chi-square test, were found to be significantly different at the 5-percent level. Major deviations were found in two pairs, 10 percent of the samples, suggesting that the predicted values might be used if one were willing to accept the fact that an average of 10 percent of the samples would yield erroneous results. Sources of the absolute deviations between the two sets of samples may lie in chemical characteristics of the filters, or waters, or extraction method of the analytical technique or some combination of these. The results of the chi-square test also indicate that uranium values from at least 10 percent of the ion-filter samples that we obtained, deviate significantly from those obtained from the 1-liter samples. A wide range of hydrologic data has been collected in the basin since the spring of 1964. These data include rainfall, stream discharge, sediment concentrations, chemical quality of water, and ground-water altitudes.</p><p>The data collection system consists of 7 recording streamflow stations, 5 recording rainfall stations, 51 non-recording rainfall stations, and 31 groundwater observation wells. Sediment and chemical quality of water samples were collected intermittently at selected sites.</p><p>A synopsis of the time and space distribution of rainfall and peak flow are provided in graphic and tabular form for selected events of rainfall and peak flow. Representative data concerning the chemical quality of water and the fluvial sediment also are included.
