Previous workers have shown that unusual concentrations of uranium occur in phosphate-rich nodular material formed during subareal weathering. We found that the old mining district is on an erosional high of the Cooper Formation and in a topographic depression, but that the process of weathering enrichment of the Cooper Formation extends beyond the mining district.</p><p>Fresh sediments from the Cooper Formation average 14.5 ppm uranium and 1.0 percent P<sub>2</sub>0<sub>5</sub> for Oliogcene samples and 5.6 ppm U and 0.15 percent P<sub>2</sub>0<sub>5</sub> for Eocene samples. Zones of secondary enrichment over undifferentiated Cooper Formation average 2 m thick and have average values of 60 ppm U and 5.4 percent P<sub>2</sub>0<sub>5</sub>. The accumulation is a phenomenon that probably occurs naturally in the problem reach. Fluctuation in the weather probably is the basic cause of the deposition of fine-grained sediment that has occurred since about 1970. The use of microprocessor based systems will reduce manpower and hardware costs from $4,000 per advanced system to $400 per microprocessor system. In addition to the cost reduction; the capacity, capability, and flexibility of the microprocessor systems were increased over the conventional systems. The microprocessor system can store up to 80 tide words as compared to 40 for the original systems. The microprocessor system can easily change data output formats from 11-bit ASCII to 8-bit ASCII codes, change tide sensors from float sensors to either crystal or bubbler sensors, and change other desired commands such as end of transmission (EOT) commands by simple software modifications.</p><p>The new Tsunami Microprocessor Tide System is programmed to operate in an \"Interrogate\" mode over the GOES Satellite Network. The Tsunami Microprocessor Tide System was developed for use in the Tsunami Warning Network. The oil in shallow basins is directly associated with faulting extending out of the deepest parts of the basin. Evidence exists that some of these shallow basins have been much hotter in the past either from igneous activity or from a higher geothermal gradient. Uplift and erosion may also have removed substantial thicknesses of sediments in some of these basins. Oil on the stable shallow shelves of deep basins may have originated in the deeper part of the basin and undergone long lateral migration to the traps where it is now found. During 1970-75, there was little annual variation in the thickness, dissolved oxygen, and specific conductance of the hypolimnion near Flaming Gorge Dam. Depletion of dissolved oxygen occurred simultaneously in the bottom waters of both tributary arms in the upstream part of the reservoir, and was due to reservoir stratification. The study analyzed the probability of spill occurrence, likely paths of the spills, and locations in space and time of such objects as recreational and biological resources likely to be vulnerable. These results combined to yield estimates of the overall oilspill risk associated with development of the proposed lease area. This risk is compared to the existing oilspill risk from existing leases in the area. A low topographic divide in the northern third of the valley separates it into the No Name Creek basin on the south and Omak Creek basin on the north. Omak Creek is the larger stream and enters the valley through a narrow gorge in the eastern granite wall. Partly filled with unconsolidated sand, gravel, and silt to depths as great as 163 feet, the valley contains a ground-water reservoir which supplies four irrigation wells and several domestic-supply wells. The ground-water reservoir also feeds springs which give rise to No Name Creek, and it contributes some water to Omak Creek to the north. Under conditions of the pre-1976 development the ground-water divide was naturally about 3,000 feet north of Omak Creek gorge, and about 580 acre-feet of leakage from Omak Creek recharges the No Name Creek ground-water reservoir. By 1977, ground-water withdrawal of 994 acre-feet per year in No Name Creek basin had caused the ground-water divide to shift to a position about 4,000 feet north of the topographic divide. This increased the drainage area contributing to the No Name Creek ground-water reservoir for about three months so that during a year of normal flow a total of about 600 acre-feet of leakage from Omak Creek can be captured. It is postulated that as much as 1,100 acre-feet per year can be pumped in the central part of the reservoir. This pumpage would cause the ground-water divide to shift farther north, resulting in the capture of additional recharge from Omak Creek; the total leakage would be about 700 acre-feet per year. Twenty-seven additional fields, discovered since January 1, 1976, in these Federal waters are not yet sufficiently developed to permit a reasonably accurate estimate of measured reserves. Nearly 66 trillion cubic feet of gas and 6.9 billion barrels of oil are estimated to have been originally recoverable from 306 fields, 12 of which are not considered to have any remaining reserves.</p><p>Reserve estimates were made on a reservoir-by-reservoir basis for 146 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 160 fields. Generally these concentrates are prepared by hand panning at streamside or in a washtub and then further concentrated using heavy—liquid (bromoform) techniques in a laboratory. Concentration using heavy liquids is slow, tedious, and expensive for large surveys such as mineral evaluation of wilderness areas. In addition the cost of bromoform is expected to increase greatly because most if not all chemical companies in the United States have ceased production of the compound due to problems in meeting the safety standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.). Preliminary studies by the E.P.A. suggest a severe health hazard may be incurred by inhaling vapors of or contacting the skin with chemicals like bromoform. Heavy—liquid concentration of thousands of heavy— mineral samples carries an unavoidable risk of exposure to bromoform. The risk, expense, and time required by routine heavy—liquid concentration of heavy minerals should be eliminated by finding other methods to satisfactorily concentrate minerals whenever it is possible.</p><p>Heavy—mineral concentrates can be used in several ways in geochemical exploration and each way has certain standards for the nature and quality of the mineral concentration required.
