S. Geological Survey has collected data on Oklahoma's ground-water resources since 1934. Most of these data were collected as part of specific ground-water studies conducted in cooperation with various Federal, State, and local agencies. Data on construction, yield, water levels, and other physical well parameters are given in 'Ground-Water Records for Northeastern Oklahoma, Part 1 - Records of Wells, Test Holes, and Springs' and in 'Ground-Water Records for Southeastern Oklahoma, Part 1 - Records of Wells, Test Holes, and Springs.' These reports are available from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, Rm. 621, 201 N.W. Third, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.\r\nAlthough some water-quality data for wells, test-holes, and springs have been published, they are scattered through a variety of reports and are not readily available on a regional basis. Furthermore, a considerable amount of data have never been published and can be obtained only from the files of the Geological Survey. The low-flow characteristics presented are the annual minimum 1-day mean flow below which the flow will fall on the average of once in 2 years (Q7,2) and the annual minimum 7-day mean flow below which the flow will fall on the average of once in 10 years (Q7,10).</p>\n<p>The low-flow characteristics are presented for 278 project sites in 32 basins considered for work under Public Law 566. They were determined by correlating base-flow measurements at the project site to the concurrent daily mean flow at continuous-record gaging stations in the area. The Q7,2 and Q7,10 discharges determined by a frequency analysis at the continuous-record gaging stations were used to estimate the Q7,2 an Q7,10 at the project sites.</p>\n<p>The accuracy of the estimated low-flow characteristics is evaluated according to the type and amount of data available used. The statewide average of the accuracy determined by the standard error of estimate for the 10-year low flow (SE7,10)&gt; based on three base-flow measurements, is 45 percent but differs within the The bulk of the coal resources occurs in rocks of the Nanushuk Group of Early and Late Cretaceous age. The Nanushuk Group is a wedge-shaped unit of marginal marine and nonmarine rocks that is as thick as 3300 m (11,000 feet) just west of NPR-A. Within the reserve, coal occurs primarily in the middle and thicker portions of this clastic wedge and occurs stratigraphically in the upper half of the section. Specific data on individual coal beds or zones are scarce, and estimates of identified coal resources of about 49.5 billion tons represent a sampling of coal resources too small to give a realistic indication of the potential resources for an area so large. Estimates of undiscovered resources suggest hypothetical resources of between 330 billion and 3.3 trillion tons. These techniques were developed for regional analysis of surface wind directional and energy characteristics in connection with Chapter F \"Dune Forms and Wind Regime\" in U.S.G.S. Professional Paper 1052, \"A study of Global Sand Seas\", (Fryberger, 1978). These techniques essentially aim at quantifying and standardizing methodology used to analyze different types of wind data. It is located within the Carlsbad Mining District about 25 miles east of Carlsbad. The WIPP area is immediately south of the Capitan Limestone subcrop, which formed the northern margin of the Delaware basin in Permian time. During Late Permian (Ochoan) time, gypsum, anhydrite, and halite were deposited in the seas of the Delaware basin to form the Castile Formation. These deposits have a maximum thickness of about 2,000 feet and grade upward into the more argillaceous beds of the Salado Formation. The Salado Formation contains abundant sulfate minerals, notably anhydrite and polyhalite. Precipitation ranges from 34 to 50 inches per year across the outcrop area which is well suited to allow high rates of infiltration. The aquifer contains an estimated 70,000,000 acre-feet of water having less than 1,000 milligrams per liter dissolved solids. The average saturated sand thickness is 250 feet. Aquifer tests indicate the average transmissivity is 1,480 feet squared per day and the average storage coefficient is 0.0005. Large-capacity wells tapping the aquifer commonly yield 100 to 500 gallons per minute; the maximum measured yield is 1,700 gallons per minute. Water usage from the aquifer is very small owing to the availability of an abundance of surface water. Water quality throughout the central and northern part of the aquifer is generally acceptable for municipal use. (In addition, there were 131 cases where there was an overlap of acreage between a lease offered and receiving bids in 2 sales.)</p><p>Table 1 summarizes these exact re-bid leases which are in 2 categories: (1) Leases re-bid after rejection of any and all bids received as a result of a prior offering, and (2) Leases re-bid after prior offering, issue, and relinquishment of a lease. We will call the former category rejected re-bid leases, the latter relinquished re-bid leases. Table 1 shows there were 120 of the former and 58 of the latter.</p><p>The purpose of this study was simply development and analysis of the statistics of re-bid leases. The reasons why the data behave as they do are subjective and unavoidably involve nontechnical value judgments. Therefore, we do not speculate on the reasons in this report. Standard identification tests (water content, Atterberg limits, grain size, specific gravity and density) as well as shear strength and compressional testing were conducted either on board the ship or in the laboratory.</p><p>The greatest thickness of Holocene sediment occurs in Norton Sound and is located in the Yukon prodelta region. This sediment is predominantly sand-silt that appears to be highly overconsolidated. The observed overconsolidation, in view of the shallow water depths throughout the region, appears to be related to storm wave surges that severely affect the bottom.</p><p>Indications of gas-charged sediment have been found in several areas of Norton Sound. Gas-charged sediment has been responsible for failures of structures in other resource development areas and generally will tend to reduce the strength characteristics of the sediment, as a result of generation of high excess pore pressures. The overall stability of the bottom sediment could be seriously affected, particularly if excess pore pressures are generated by storm wave activity in regions of gas-charged sediment. Because of the difficulty experienced with sampling intact gas-charged sediments, in-place testing equipment is considered necessary for future work to more accurately assess the impact and extent of the gas charging.</p><p>Several cores that were taken for this study penetrated into peaty muds. The dominant Precambrian granitic rock type is the biotitic phase of the granite of Lankin Dome. This rock type is characterized by high potassium and anomalously high thorium concentrations, and is the most favorable granitic source for the uranium deposits in the surrounding area. Areal distribution patterns for radioelement concentrations show that the most favorable source regions are located closest to known uranium deposits.</p><p>Most of the granitic rocks in the Granite Mountains region are characterized by high thorium-uranium ratios. These high ratios are interpreted to be the result of uranium loss. Non-gaussian distribution of radioelement contents and poor correlation between radioelement pairs are interpreted to be the result of some redistribution of radioelements during the last phase of granite crystallization and to recent uranium loss. A good correlation between thorium and iron is attributed to the mobilization of thorium into microcrystalline iron oxides during a late portion of the magmatic history.</p><p>A comparison of sulfur data for surface and shallow drill-hole samples suggests that sulfur has been removed from the granite to at least a depth of 20 m. Measured vertical changes as great as 3.5 cm per year indicate that two types of tectonic movement are occurring: (1) a downward regional tilt of the valley surface from the Mexican border northward toward Salton Sea, and (2) a deepening of the structural trough presently occupied by Salton Sea. A comparison of 1972-77 change contours with 1927 topographic contours shows gross parallelism, suggesting that the recent deformation is a continuation of the tectonism that formed the Salton trough. Ground movement since 1972 has tended to steepen slightly the gradients of streams, canals, and drains on the valley floor and to increase the capacity of Salton Sea. The results indicated that complete mixing did not occur during the first tidal cycle but was complete after two or more cycles. The fluorometric dye-tracing procedure was used to determine the dispersion characteristics of the water mass. Rhodamine WT dye, 20-percent solution, was continuously injected on the west side of the river throughout an ebb tide, and its movement was monitored during a 30-hour period. Samples were collected both individually and continuously. Automatic dye samplers were used at selected cross sections near each bank. Bathymetric measurements were made at eight cross sections between Newburgh and West Point to determine the depths. Studies are now in progress in Austin, Dallas and Dallas County, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.</p><p>The Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Water Resources, began hydrologic studies in the Austin urban area in 1954. In cooperation with the city of Austin, the program was expanded in 1975 to include additional streamflow and rainfall gaging stations, and the collection of water-quality data. The objectives of the Austin urban hydrology study are as follows:1. To determine, on the basis of historical data and hydrologic analyses, the magnitude and frequency of flood peaks and flood volume.; 2. To determine the effect of urban development on flood peaks and volume.; 3. To ascertain the variation in water quality for different seasons from selected basins of varying urban development.</p><p>This report presents the basic hydrologic data collected in the Austin urban area for the 1976 water year (Oct. 1, 1976 to Sept. 30, 1976).
