All references to reports of the Geological Survey, to most reports of the U.S. Bureau of Mines, and to most reports of the State of Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys and its predecessor State and Territorial agencies released before September 1, 1977, are summarized. Certain, mainly statistical, reports such as the annual Minerals Yearbook of the U.S. Bureau of Mines and the biennial and annual reports of the State of Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys and its predecessor State and Territorial agencies are not included.
This report is divided into three parts: a section made up of summaries of references arranged alphabetically by occurrence name; a section that lists synonyms for names in the first section, claim names, and the names of operators and owners of mines and prospects; and a section that lists, by author, all references summarized in the first section.

Most of the listed reports and maps bear a 1977 imprint date; a few with earlier imprint dates actually were not delivered until 1977.
Reports that deal with regional tectonic hypotheses, regional syntheses, Alaska as a whole, or with areas that can not be identified with a specific quadrangle are listed under Alaska - General, as are statistical presentations, indexes, and the like. Reports and maps that deal with offshore areas not within quadrangle boundaries are listed under Offshore Areas. The Alaska - General and Offshore Areas lists appear before the alphabetically arranged quadrangle listings.

The host rocks are believed to be part of a sequence of marine sediments and submarine volcanogenic rocks that were metamorphosed to leucogneisses, amphibolites, and amphoholite gneisses in the granulite facies. Ore grade concentrations of uraninite occur (1) in the outer Cu-Ni-bearing zone of the sulfide body; (2) in magnetite-rich and scapolite-rich layers within amphibolite gneiss; and (3) in amphibole-quartz-feldspar + pyroxene pegmatites. The uranium-rich horizons are generally near the contact between rocks of keratophyre and spilite affinities.
It is suggested that the iron oxide, uranium-rich, and sulfide-rich horizons and their host rocks were originally deposited in the distal, volcanogenic, massive sulfide environment.

The program is technological, though certain environmental investigations are being conducted as a necessary adjunct. The program manager provides a focal point for communicating with the research community in both the university system and private industry as well as with Federal agencies. Interaction is needed not only with. other Government agencies, such as the Bureau of Land Management and the Department of Energy, but within the Geological Survey itself. USGS engineers and scientists are in a unique position to contribute to the success of the program by their specialized knowledge and experience in the many aspects of offshore operations such as marine geology, seismology and petroleum engineering.

The Hunt Fork Shale and an underlying heterogeneous unit (unnamed) were measured and sampled on the east side of the upper Beaucoup Creek in the Philip Smith Mountains A-1 quadrangle (secs. 17, 19, and 20, T. 14 S.,
R. 20 E.) (Brosge and others, 1977).
