Landsat color composite images, at 1:250,000 scale and acquired on two dates during the 1975 growing season, were interpreted. Irrigated lands were delineated manually, and the irrigated area was estimated, based on dot-grid sampling of the manually delineated lands. The image interpretation estimate of irrigated area was then adjusted by a comparison of interpretation results with ground data on 45 sample plots, each 1 mi<sup>2</sup> (2.6 km<sup>2</sup>) in size.</p><p>Two interpreters independently estimated the irrigated area. &nbsp;Their adjusted estimates were 285,000 acres (115,000 ha) and 267,000 acres (108,000 ha) respectively, with corresponding 95 percent confidence intervals of ±19,500 acres (7,880 ha) and ±34,700 acres (14,000 ha). Used with timely&nbsp;and accurate ground data, the system made possible a determination of&nbsp;the variability in crop spectral appearance, from soil type to soil&nbsp;type, as recorded on Landsat data. Information was provided in the&nbsp;form of spectral distribution histrograms for each crop-soil class on&nbsp;each Landsat band. Several crop categories in a test area in &nbsp;rookings&nbsp;County, South Dakota, were classified using training fields that were&nbsp;selected to be representative of each major crop-soil class. One additional site was put under surveillance in 1976. Except for construction changes wrought by installation of the pipeline, most of the sites surveyed showed very little change since the 1975 surveys. Some of the significant events of 1976 at the monitored crossing sites include: glacier-dammed lake break-out floods on the Tazlina and Tsina Rivers, severe icings on the Gulkana River which resulted in a spring flood 3-4 feet (1 meter) over banktop, and virtual completion of all the buried crossings and all but one overhead crossing before the 1976 channel erosion resurveys were made.</p><p>Aerial photogrammetric surveys were used again in 1976 on the same seven sites as in 1975. Comparison of the photogrammetric surveys with each other and with on-the-ground surveys indicate that the method is generally applicable for channel erosion studies. However, it requires engineering judgement and personal knowledge of the site to avoid reaching inaccurate conclusions about channel change in some The coliform bacteria are modeled using a first-order decay (death) rate, which is a function of the local salinity, temperature, and daily solar radiation. The pH is computed by solving a set of chemical-equilibrium equations for carbonate-bicarbonate buffered aqueous solutions. Concentrations of total- and fecal-coliform bacteria computed by the model for the Duwamish River estuary during June-September 1971 generally agreed with observed concentrations within about 40 and 60 percent, respectively. The computed pH generally agreed with observed pH within about a 0.2 pH unit; however, for one 3-week period the computed pH was about a 0.4 unit lower than the observed pH. The sedimentary textures resulting from depositional processes operating in lower energy environments appear to have influenced uranium mineralization. The Chinle consists of three fining-upward, fluvial-lacustrine sequences. Uranium mineralization is concentrated in the lower part of the lowest sequence in areas where sediments of lower energy environments are complexly interbedded with sediments of other environments. Areas favorable for uranium exploration exist in the subsurface to the north, west, and south of the Chinle outcrop in the Swell. Paper and mylar copies of the seismic sections and shot point maps are available to the public from NOAA in Boulder, Colorado.</p><p>The seismic data shows two strong reflections that have been interpreted as returns from erosional surfaces and a third reflection that represents the acoustic basement. From indications in the seismic data, shallow reflectors onlap to the northwest; deep reflectors onlap to the southeast. A major structural feature in lower Cook Inlet is an east-trending transbasin arch here informally named the Augustine-Seldovia arch. Anticlines smaller than the arch trend approximately northeast and may offer good structural traps for petroleum where they intersect the arch.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological As defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an elutriate is the supernatant resulting from the vigorous 30-minute shaking of one part bottom sediment from the dredging site with four parts water (vol/vol) collected from the dredging site followed by one hour settling time and appropriate centrifugation and a 0.45-micron filtration. The elutriate studies were initiated to evaluate possible environmental effects of proposed dredging activities in selected reaches of Louisiana waterways. The waterways investigated were the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, Breton Sound, Mississippi River downstream from Baton Rouge, Bayou Long, Intracoastal Waterway (east and west of the Harvey Canal), Three Rivers area, Ouachita River, Barataria Bay, Houma Navigation Canal, Atchafalaya Bay (Ship Channel), Berwick Bay, Intracoastal Waterway (Port Allen to Morgan City), Petite Anse area, and Calcasieu River and Ship Channel. The Geological Survey collected 227 samples of native water and bed (bottom) material from 130 different sites. These samples (as well as elutriates prepared from mixtures of native water and bed material) were analyzed for selected metal, pesticide, nutrient, and organic constituents. An additional 116 bed samples collected at 58 sites were analyzed for selected pesticides; and 4 additional native-water samples from 2 sites were analyzed for selected metal pesticide, nutrient, and organic constituents. S. Geological Survey has collected data on Oklahoma's ground-water resources since 1934. Most of these data were collected as part of specific ground-water studies conducted in cooperation with various Federal, State, and local agencies.</p>\n<br/>\n<p>Although a large amount of ground-water data have been published, they are scattered through a variety of reports and are not readily available on a regional basis. Furthermore, a considerable amount of data have never been published and can be obtained only from the files of the Geological Survey. The purpose of this report is to make available both published and unpublished records for approximately 1,780 wells, test-holes, and springs in 16 counties in northeastern Oklahoma.
