As a result, I am able to present a summary (table 1) of the rocks exposed and to indicate their ages and relations with each other. The Mesozoic rocks are emphasized because the local geologic record of this era is more complete in the southern part of the Santa Rita Mountains than elsewhere in southern Arizona. For example, there is evidence to indicate that about 10,000 feet of volcanics (including pillow lava), eolian sandstone, and possibly even red beds was deposited during Triassic time and that these rocks were intruded by a monzonite stock before the end of that period. It is hoped that release of the data at this time, prior to the final publication by the U.S. Geological Survey, will stimulate in the geological community of southern Arizona a timely interest in some of the complex problems of the Mesozoic tectonic history. Solutions to these problems may suggest new approaches to minerals exploration in this region.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological These data are provided in the form of gaging-station and other flood records and as flood profiles. Flood-frequency data are used to compute the 25- and 50-year recurrence interval discharges along the Little Sioux River from mile 24 to the Minnesota State line. The profiles of these two floods are computed and presented together with the profiles of the floods that occurred in 1965 and certain prior years. Less complete data are presented for the Ocheyedan and Maple Rivers, tributaries of the Little Sioux River.</p>\n<p>Stage and discharge tabulations at 8 gaging stations for the 1965 flood can be used for volumetric computation. The report has been prepared for and under specifications established by the Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army, and the Public Health Service, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.</p><p>A comprehensive study of the water and related land resources of the Susquehanna River basin was authorized by the Congress of the United States in October 1961, and the task of preparing a report and of coordinating the work being done by others in support of the study was assigned to the Corps of Engineers. The comprehensive study is being conducted by several Federal departments and independent agencies in cooperation with the States of New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The Public Health Service under its authority in the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (P. The report is an updating of the Cimarron Basin part of the report on the Arkansas, White, and Red River basins (Lohman and Burtis, 1953a) and includes more recently published data, as well as unpublished data in the files of the Geological Survey. These data are compiled by district offices of the Geological Survey in each State in cooperation with State and local agencies and with other Federal agencies. No new data were collected as a part of this investigation. The report is primarily a map presentation, and the text is intended mainly to clarify and supplement the maps and to make them more understandable and usable. The report also presents some of the ground-water problems--both present and potential--and suggests some partial solutions.
