County, Montana","docAbstract":"Nine uranium deposits occur in a small area vest of Clancey,Jefferson County, Mont. These deposits are all in or near silicifiedfracture zones in quarts monsonite and related rocks of the Boulderbatholith. The deposits contain pockets of uranium minerals in cavities in brecciated silicified rock. The primary uranium mineral pitch-blende has been found in one pod. Secondary uranium minerals occur as fracture linings and in pore spaces in and adjacent to the silicified zones.
Uranium in the Clancey district was deposited probably during oneof the later of at least four periods of silicification. The quartsmonsonite, rather than the younger alaskitic dike rocks, is the host rock of the deposits.
Newmont Mining Corp. has leased the properties containing theuranium deposits and has begun development of one of these deposits.

Geological Survey and the Geological Survey of Wyoming, Yield, it was started during the summer of 1944 and has been carried on intermittently since as a part of the studies of the Laramie Range pre-Cambrian.
The Canning 15-minute quadrangle, near the center of South Dakota, is bordered on the east by the 100th Meridian and on the north by latitude 44°30'. The geology of the quadrangle has been mapped by the Engineering Geology Branch of the Geological Survey as part of a project in the general plan of the Department of Interior for developing the resources of the Missouri River Basin. One unit of this plan is the construction, by the Bureau of Reclamation, of a canal from the proposed Oahe reservoir in the Missouri River trench extending eastward and passing through the Canning quadrangle to the Blunt balancing reservoir, about 10 miles northeast of the northeast corner of the quadrangle.
The only community in the quadrangle is Canning, a village of 57 inhabitants. The nearest larger towns are Blunt, 1 mile north of the northeast corner of the quadrangle, and Pierre, 3 miles west of the quadrangle.

Homer district, Kenai coal field, Alaska in 1950","docAbstract":"The present report presents the results of work done in part of the 1950 field season and supplements reports by Barnes (1949) and Cobb (1950) on coal investigations on the southern and southwest margins of the Homer district. Barnes' report covers investigations of coal-bearing rocks of the Kenai formation of Tertiary age in a coastal belt between Bluff Point, 1-1/2 miles west of Homer, and the head of Kachemak Bay. Cobb's report deals with similar rocks exposed along the shore between Bluff Point and Deep Creek. The present report covers an extension of this work from Deep Creek along the east shore of Cook Inlet to the most northerly exposures of rocks of the Kenai formation in the beach bluffs about 6 miles south of the mouth of the Kasilof River, Outcrops of coal-bearing rocks along the Storling Highway and the lower reaches of the Ninilchik River also were investigated. The writer, assisted by F.J. Markewicz, carried on the field work which is the basis for this report between June 1 and August 12, 1950. Field work comprised measurement of stratigraphic sections, tracing of coal beds, geologic mapping along the shorn of Cook Inlet, the lower part of the Ninilchik River, and the Sterling Highway, and sampling of coal beds.
