Water-resources planners and other water-oriented groups have expressed concern over ground-water level declines and reductions in streamflow that are occurring as a result of heavy pumping. Digital-computer modeling techniques were used to estimate hydrologic changes in the aquifer system that would be caused by continued development. The system was modeled as a two-aquifer system consisting of a confined sandstone aquifer overlain by a leaky unconfined aquifer and underlain by impermeable bedrock. The physical properties of the aquifer system needed for the model were approximated using aquifer-test data and well-log data and by matching observed hydrologic changes in the system with corresponding changes computed by the model. Computed hydrologic changes do not represent a serious depletion of the available ground-water supply for the foreseeable future. Maximum added regional declines in ground-water levels (drawdowns) from 1970 to 1990 were computed to be approximately 10 feet (3 metres) in the unconfined aquifer and approximately 40 feet (12 metres) in the confined aquifer. It is computed that for the same period the average annual streamflow from the upper Yahara River basin would be reduced by approximately 29 cubic feet per second (0.82 cubic metre per second). These changes are computed based on estimated development trends for the confined sandstone aquifer.","language":"English","publisher":"Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey","publisherLocation":"Madison, WI","collaboration":"Prepared by the United States Department of the Interior Geological Survey in cooperation with Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey","usgsCitation":"McLeod, R., 1975, A digital-computer model for estimating hydrologic changes in the aquifer system in Dane County, Wisconsin: Information Circular 30, vii, 40 p.; ill.; maps.","productDescription":"vii, 40 p.; ill.; maps","startPage":"i","endPage":"40","costCenters":[{"id":677,"text":"Wisconsin Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":265977,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"},{"id":265976,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://wisconsingeologicalsurvey.org/pdfs/IC30.pdf"}],"country":"United States","state":"Wisconsin","county":"Dane County","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -89.8394,42.8448 ], [ -89.8394,43.2943 ], [ -89.0084,43.2943 ], [ -89.0084,42.8448 ], [ -89.8394,42.8448 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"50fa7d34e4b061045bf9aba5","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"McLeod, R.S.","contributorId":7283,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"McLeod","given":"R.S.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":472112,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

Over 6 inches (152 millimetres) of rainfall was recorded during a 10-hour period at Trenton, the capital of New Jersey. No lives were lost but damages to highways and bridges, to industrial, business, and residential buildings, to farmlands and crops, and to water supply systems were severe. This report illustrates the magnitude of the flood and provides hydrologic data needed for planning and design to control or lessen damages from future floods. It includes discussions of the antecedent conditions and meteorological aspects of the storm; a description of the flood and comparison to previous floods; a summary of flood stages and discharges; a discussion of flood frequency; and photomosaics which show inundated areas. The carbon-dioxide-rich springs issue mainly from Franciscan terrane; they also are rich in boron and are of the metamorphic type (White, 1957). Based on isotopic data, either the carbon dioxide or the water, or both, may be of metamorphic origin. Because of high magnesium values, the water of many of the carbon-dioxide-rich springs is thought to have passed through serpentinite. The chloride-rich waters are most common in rocks of the Great Valley sequence. Nearly all are more dilute than present-day sea water. The similarity in isotopic compositions of the metamorphic carbon-dioxide-rich water and the chloride-rich water may indicate a similar extent of water-rock interaction.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Government Printing Office","publisherLocation":"Washington, D.C.","doi":"10.3133/other1975","usgsCitation":"Barnes, I., Irwin, W., and Gibson, H., 1975, Geologic map showing springs rich in carbon dioxide or or chloride in California: Water Resources Investigations Open-File Map 1975, Map: 29 x 33 cm., https://doi.org/10.3133/other1975.","productDescription":"Map: 29 x 33 cm.","costCenters":[{"id":312,"text":"Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":260266,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/unnumbered/5659/report-thumb.jpg"},{"id":260264,"rank":900,"type":{"id":17,"text":"Plate"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/unnumbered/5659/plate-1.pdf"},{"id":260265,"rank":800,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/unnumbered/5659/report.pdf"}],"scale":"500000","country":"United States","county":"California","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -124.4,32.5 ], [ -124.4,42 ], [ -114.13333333333334,42 ], [ -114.13333333333334,32.5 ], [ -124.4,32.5 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a1fb7e4b0c8380cd5694b","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Barnes, Ivan","contributorId":56619,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Barnes","given":"Ivan","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":151383,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Irwin, William P.","contributorId":12889,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Irwin","given":"William P.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":151381,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Gibson, H.A.","contributorId":21548,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Gibson","given":"H.A.","email":"","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":151382,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3}]}}

Researchers compared Level II land use maps produced at three scales, 1:24,000, 1:100,000, and 1:250,000 from high-altitude photography, with each other and with point data obtained in the field. They employed the same procedures to determine the accuracy of the Level I land use maps produced at 1:250,000 from high-altitude photography and color composite ERTS imagery. The accuracy of the Level II maps was 84.9 percent at 1:24,000, 77.4 percent at 1:100,000, and 73.0 percent at 1:250,000. The accuracy of the Level I 1:250,000 maps produced from high-altitude aircraft photography was 76.5 percent and for those produced from ERTS imagery was 69.5 percent The cost of Level II land use mapping at 1:24,000 was found to be high ($11.93 per km2 ). The cost of mapping at 1:100,000 ($1.75) was about 2 times as expensive as mapping at 1:250,000 ($.88), and the accuracy increased by only 4.4 percent. Level I land use maps, when mapped from highaltitude photography, were about 4 times as expensive as the maps produced from ERTS imagery, although the accuracy is 7.0 percent greater. Implementation of plans to control air quality requires land use information, which, until this time, has been inadequate. The pilot system, however, provided data for updating information on the sources of point and area emissions of SO<sub>2</sub> and particulate matter affecting the Norfolk-Portsmouth area of Virginia for the 1971-72 winter (Dec.-Jan.-Feb.) and the annual 1972 period, and for a future annual period 1985. This emission information is used as input to the Air Quality Display Model of the Environmental Protection Agency to obtain diffusion and impact patterns for the three periods previously mentioned. The results are: (1) During the 1971-72 winter, estimated S0<sub>2</sub> amounts over an area with a SW-NE axis in the central section of Norfolk exceeded both primary and secondary levels; (2) future annual levels of SO<sub>2</sub>, estimated by anticipated residential development and point-source changes, are not expected to cause serious deterioration of the region's present air quality; and (3) for the 1971-72 winter and annual 1972 period the diffusion results showed that both primary and secondary standards for particulate matter are regularly exceeded in central Norfolk and Portsmouth. In addition, on the basis of current control programs, the 1985 levels of particulate matter are expected to exceed the presently established secondary air quality standards through central Norfolk and Portsmouth and in certain areas of Virginia Beach.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","doi":"10.3133/70039601","collaboration":"Sponsored jointly by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey","usgsCitation":"Reed, W.E., and Lewis, J., 1975, Land use information and air quality planning: Final Report Volume 7, iv, 91 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/70039601.","productDescription":"iv, 91 p.","numberOfPages":"101","costCenters":[{"id":296,"text":"Geography Program","active":false,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":259606,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/usgs_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Delaware;Maryl;New Jersey;North Carolina;Pennsylvania;Virginia","city":"Norfolk;Portsmouth","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -78,36 ], [ -78,38 ], [ -75,38 ], [ -75,36 ], [ -78,36 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a4387e4b0c8380cd663e6","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Reed, Wallace E.","contributorId":30087,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Reed","given":"Wallace","email":"","middleInitial":"E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":466546,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"Lewis, John E.","contributorId":94150,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Lewis","given":"John E.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":466547,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2}]}}

Level II land use mapping from high-altitude aircraft photography at a scale of 1:100,000 required production of a photomosaic mapping base for each of the 48, 50 x 50 km sheets, and the interpretation and coding of land use polygons on drafting film overlays. CARETS researchers also produced a series of 1970 to 1972 land use change overlays, using the 1970 land use maps and 1972 high-altitude aircraft photography. To enhance the value of the land use sheets, researchers compiled series of overlays showing cultural features, county boundaries and census tracts, surface geology, and drainage basins. In producing Level I land use maps from Landsat imagery, at a scale of 1:250,000, interpreters overlaid drafting film directly on Landsat color composite transparencies and interpreted on the film. They found that such interpretation involves pattern and spectral signature recognition. In studies using Landsat imagery, interpreters identified numerous areas of change but also identified extensive areas of \"false change,\" where Landsat spectral signatures but not land use had changed.","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","doi":"10.3133/70039600","collaboration":"Sponsored jointly by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey","usgsCitation":"Alexander, R.H., De Forth, P.W., Fitzpatrick, K.A., Lins, H.F., and McGinty, H.K., 1975, Interpretation, compilation and field verification procedures in the CARETS project: Final Report Volume 5, iv, 117 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/70039600.","productDescription":"iv, 117 p.","numberOfPages":"125","costCenters":[{"id":296,"text":"Geography Program","active":false,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":259605,"rank":0,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/usgs_thumb.jpg"}],"country":"United States","state":"Delaware;Maryl;New Jersey;North Carolina;Pennsylvania;Virginia","city":"Norfold;Portsmouth;Washington D.C.","geographicExtents":"{ \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\", \"features\": [ { \"type\": \"Feature\", \"properties\": {}, \"geometry\": { \"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [ [ [ -78,36 ], [ -78,40.666666666666664 ], [ -74,40.666666666666664 ], [ -74,36 ], [ -78,36 ] ] ] } } ] }","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"505a3d89e4b0c8380cd6363b","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Alexander, Robert H.","contributorId":53807,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Alexander","given":"Robert","email":"","middleInitial":"H.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":466544,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1},{"text":"De Forth, Peter W.","contributorId":15879,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"De Forth","given":"Peter","email":"","middleInitial":"W.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":466542,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":2},{"text":"Fitzpatrick, Katherine A.","contributorId":54846,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Fitzpatrick","given":"Katherine","email":"","middleInitial":"A.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":466545,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":3},{"text":"Lins, Harry F. 0000-0001-5385-9247 hlins@usgs.gov","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5385-9247","contributorId":1505,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Lins","given":"Harry","email":"hlins@usgs.gov","middleInitial":"F.","affiliations":[{"id":502,"text":"Office of Surface Water","active":true,"usgs":true}],"preferred":true,"id":466541,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":4},{"text":"McGinty, Herbert K. Although flood hzards are a continuing danger, the year-to-year threat cannot be accurately predicted. Also, on any one stream, the time since the last destructive flood might be so long that most people now living near the stream have not experienced such a flood. Because of the unpredictability and common infrequency of disastrous flooding, or out of ignorance about the danger, or perhaps because of an urge to gamble, man tends to focus his attention on only the advantages of the flood-prone areas, rather than the risk due to the occasional major flood.  The purposes of this report are to: (1) briefly describe flood hazards in this region, including some that may be unique to the Puget Sound basin, (2) indicate the parts of the area for which flood-hazard data are available, and (3) list the main sources of hydrologic information that is useful for flood-hazard analysis in conjuction with long-range planning. Two programs presently under way and a third that is in the experimental phase are making possible the up-to-date mapping of abundance as well as distribution. A fourth program that has been used successfully in Europe and on a small scale in parts of North America yields detailed information on breeding distribution. The Breeding Bird Survey, sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife and the Canadian Wildlife Service, involves 2,000 randomly distributed roadside counts that are conducted during the height of the breeding season in all U.S. States and Canadian Provinces. Observations of approximately 1.4 million birds per year are entered on magnetic tape and subsequently used both for statistical analysis of population trends and for computer mapping of distribution and abundance. The National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count is conducted in about 1,000 circles, each 15 miles (24 km) in diameter, in the latter half of December. Raw data for past years have been published in voluminous reports, but not in a form for ready analysis. Under a contract between the U.S. Air Force and the U. S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife (in cooperation with the National Audubon Society), preliminary maps showing distribution and abundance of selected species that are potential hazards to aircraft are presently being mapped and prepared for publication. The variable-length records were converted to the common-time base of 1941-70; then general relations were developed to extend the converted point values to unsampled sites. Regression techniques were used to fill voids in the temperature-data base. Incomplete precipitation records were adjusted to the 1941-70 average on the assumption that the ratio of concurrent data is directly proportional to the ratio of the respective 1941-70 average annual values at nearby sites. Equations were then developed through a computer program to express the relationship of temperature and precipitation with altitude and location and to extend the information to unsampled sites. Two-thirds of the observed and estimated average annual temperature and precipitation values are within &plusmn;1.5&deg;F (1.0&deg;C) and 2.08 in (53 mm), respectively, of the calculated averages. The area of the intensity profile of a spectral line is approximated by a rectangle whose height is related to the intensity difference between the peak and background of the line and whose width is measured at a fixed transmittance below the apex of the line. To show the vertical and horizontal boundaries of aquifers, most techniques require a multiple set of maps, a fence diagram, or a combination of maps and sections. Calculations of the first two moments, mean and standard deviation, of a discontinuous distribution result in values that represent the center of gravity (mean position) and spread (standard deviation) of all the sand units in a drill hole. Data for the moment method consist of depth to center point and thickness of each sand unit. A 2.600 mi<sup>2</sup> (6,730 km<sup>2</sup>) area in northwestern Minnesota that, contained 71 test holes drilled to bedrock was used to test the usefulness of the moment method in glacial terrain. Plots of relative position of center of gravity and relative spread (calculated as percentage of total drift thickness) showed three groupings for relative center of gravity (shallow, 0-26 percent, medium, 30-55. and deep 58-72) and three for spread of sand units (narrow, 1-5 percent, medium, 8-19, and wide, 22-38). The resulting vertical-variability pattern map shows the areas of each of the nine combinations of these two factors. Because the vertical-variability map does not show quantity of sand, the map is most informative if the total thickness of sand, 01- percent sand of total drift thickness, is recorded by each hole location on the map. The center of gravity is useful for describing the vertical position of the principal sand in a drill hole because it lies within the principal sand unit in 34 of the 63 holes that contained sand, and it is within 15 percent (based on total drift, thickness) of the principal sand unit in 22 of the remaining 29 holes.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","usgsCitation":"Winter, T.C., 1975, Delineation of buried glacial drift aquifers: Journal of Research of the U.S. Geological Survey, v. 3, no. 2, p. 137-148.","productDescription":"12 p.","startPage":"137","endPage":"148","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[{"id":478,"text":"North Dakota Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true},{"id":34685,"text":"Dakota Water Science Center","active":true,"usgs":true}],"links":[{"id":316541,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"},{"id":316540,"rank":1,"type":{"id":11,"text":"Document"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/journal/1975/vol3issue2/report.pdf","text":"Report","size":"28.00 MB","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"},"description":"Report"}],"country":"United States","state":"Michigan, Minnesota","county":"Kittson County, Marshall County, Oakland County, Roseau County","otherGeospatial":"Lac Qui Parle River watershed, Mesabi Iron Range, Roseau River watershed,","geographicExtents":"{\n  \"type\": \"FeatureCollection\",\n  \"features\": [\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -95,\n              48\n            ],\n            [\n              -95,\n              49\n            ],\n            [\n              -96,\n              49\n            ],\n            [\n              -96,\n              48\n            ],\n            [\n              -95,\n              48\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    },\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -96.5,\n              44.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -96.5,\n              45.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -95.5,\n              45.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -95.5,\n              44.5\n            ],\n            [\n              -96.5,\n              44.5\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    },\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -92,\n              47\n            ],\n            [\n              -92,\n              48\n            ],\n            [\n              -93,\n              48\n            ],\n            [\n              -93,\n              47\n            ],\n            [\n              -92,\n              47\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    },\n    {\n      \"type\": \"Feature\",\n      \"properties\": {},\n      \"geometry\": {\n        \"type\": \"Polygon\",\n        \"coordinates\": [\n          [\n            [\n              -83,\n              42.2\n            ],\n            [\n              -83,\n              42.8\n            ],\n            [\n              -83.8,\n              42.8\n            ],\n            [\n              -83.8,\n              42.2\n            ],\n            [\n              -83,\n              42.2\n            ]\n          ]\n        ]\n      }\n    }\n  ]\n}","volume":"3","issue":"2","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"56b332eae4b0cc79997f3313","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Winter, Thomas C.","contributorId":84736,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Winter","given":"Thomas","email":"","middleInitial":"C.","affiliations":[],"preferred":false,"id":597188,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

In remote sensing we should use color to display data more meaningfully, not to re-create the scene. Color disappears with distance, and features change color with viewing angle. Color infrared film lets us apply color with additional meaning even though we introduce a false color response. Although the marginal gray scale on an ERTS (Earth Resources Technology Satellite) image may indicate balance between the green, red, and infrared bands, and although each band may be printed in a primary color, tests show that we are not fully applying the three primary colors. Therefore, contrast in the green band should be raised. For true three-color remote sensing of the Earth, we must find two generally meaningful signatures in the visible spectrum, or perhaps extend our spectral range. Before turning to costly digital processing we should explore analog processing. Most ERTS users deal with relative spectral radiance; the few concerned with absolute radiance could use the computer-compatible tapes or special annotations. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), which assigns the range and contrast to the ERTS image, controls processing and could adjust the density range for maximum contrast in any ERTS scene. NASA cannot alter processing for local changes in reflective characteristics of the Earth but could adjust for Sun elevation and optimize the contrast in a given band.</p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. Geological Survey","publisherLocation":"Reston, VA","usgsCitation":"Colvocoresses, A.P., 1975, Information through color imagery: Journal of Research of the U.S. Geological Survey, v. 3, no. 2, p. 127-129.","productDescription":"3 p.","startPage":"127","endPage":"129","onlineOnly":"N","additionalOnlineFiles":"N","costCenters":[],"links":[{"id":316537,"type":{"id":24,"text":"Thumbnail"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/thumbnails/outside_thumb.jpg"},{"id":316536,"rank":1,"type":{"id":7,"text":"Companion Files"},"url":"https://pubs.usgs.gov/journal/1975/vol3issue2/report.pdf","text":"Report","size":"28.00 MB","linkFileType":{"id":1,"text":"pdf"},"description":"Report"}],"volume":"3","issue":"2","noUsgsAuthors":false,"publicationStatus":"PW","scienceBaseUri":"56b332f5e4b0cc79997f3378","contributors":{"authors":[{"text":"Colvocoresses, Alden P.","contributorId":72779,"corporation":false,"usgs":true,"family":"Colvocoresses","given":"Alden","email":"","middleInitial":"P.","affiliations":[{"id":595,"text":"U.S. Geological Survey","active":false,"usgs":true}],"preferred":false,"id":597185,"contributorType":{"id":1,"text":"Authors"},"rank":1}]}}

The area includes 450 square miles (1,160 square kilometres). The boundaries are: West, the eastern slopes of the Coast Ranges; north, Elder Creek; northeast, the Sacramento River and the Glenn-Colusa Canal; east and southeast, the Colusa Basin Drainage Canal; and south, Oat Creek. </p><p>Between April and July 1974, 393 wells were selectively canvassed and between August and October 1974, water samples were collected for chemical analysis from 222 wells of the 393 wells canvassed. Field determinations of alkalinity, conductance, pH, and temperature were made on the site at the time of sampling. The samples were then field prepared for shipment and analysis for individual constituents at the Geological Survey Central Laboratory, Salt Lake City, Utah. Descriptive data for water wells are listed in table 1, chemical data in tables 2 and 3, and the location of these wells is shown on maps 1-28. </p><p></p>","language":"English","publisher":"U.S. As development proceeds along the north slope of alaska, a knowledge of the potential drift trajectories of water, ice, sediment and pollutants will be needed. In an attempt to better define the probable paths and rates of transport, 4200 surface drift cards were dropped during the U.S. Coast Guard WEBSEC cruise of August and September, 1972. The results of this release are the subject of this report. Because the data presented here will be used primarily by those interested in solving problems of transport, the emphasis has been placed on data presentation rather than a detailed analysis of the circulation.
